Ukraine Can, At Last, Use Its American Missiles Inside Russia

THE WEAPON, known as the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), was conceived in the late 1980s. Its name served a dual purpose: it was an acronym and, when pronounced, sounded like a command—“attack ’ems.” However, Ukraine was unable to launch attacks within Russia until November 17th, when American media reported that President Joe Biden had shifted his stance, allowing Ukraine to deploy the advanced long-range missiles against targets in Russia.

While this decision may not significantly alter Ukraine’s challenging situation on the front lines, it will enhance morale and strengthen the nation’s position in the negotiations led by Donald Trump starting January 20th. However, a turbulent two months are expected ahead.
