In a separate incident on Monday, a lawsuit was initiated against one of the attorneys known for leading over 120 legal actions against Mr. Combs. The lawsuit, brought forth by an unnamed “high-profile individual” against Texas lawyer Tony Buzbee, claimed that Mr. Buzbee attempted to extort him by threatening to publicize “completely fabricated and malicious allegations of sexual assault.” Court documents obtained by the BBC reveal that the plaintiff identified himself as a former associate of Diddy and admitted to attending events with the troubled music mogul.
The lawsuit against Mr. Buzbee asserts that the Houston attorney employs a “clear playbook” for extorting celebrities, which involves fabricating allegations and issuing letters demanding payment. According to the lawsuit, if the demands are not satisfied, he resorts to the media to exert public pressure.
Mr. Buzbee, who denies any wrongdoing, characterized the lawsuit as a “last-ditch effort” to prevent him from revealing the individual’s identity. “It is evident that the baseless lawsuit filed against my firm is a bold attempt to intimidate or silence me and ultimately my clients,” he stated in a message sent to the BBC. “No monetary amounts were included in the demand letters,” he wrote. “No threats were made. The demand letters sent are no different from those routinely issued by lawyers nationwide in various cases.” Additional reporting by Samantha Granville.
