Kim Kardashian Shares Her Challenges with Disciplining Her Children: “I Stuck to My Guns”
Kim Kardashian is not allowing her children to walk all over her. The star of The Kardashians—who has four kids, North (11), Saint (8), Chicago (6), and Psalm (5), with her ex-husband Kanye West—recently opened up about her newfound commitment to discipline.
“It requires a lot of effort,” Kim confessed to her friend Zoe Winkler during the November 12 episode of the iHeartRadio podcast, What in the Winkler? “Just yesterday, one of my kids was really upset about something related to their phone, and I said, ‘You know what? Then you just won’t have it.’ There were tears all the way to school.”
Despite her discomfort at seeing her child cry, Kim remained resolute about taking away their device. “Normally, I’d say, ‘Okay, fine. Here’s your phone. Just stop crying,’” Kim explained. “But I thought, ‘If I don’t stand my ground and endure the tears—no matter how uncomfortable it is—they will always get what they want, and the lesson won’t be learned.’” Through this experience, Kim also realized an important lesson in parenting. “I persevered,” she said. “And today, the same situation occurred. There were no tears. They accepted that there was no phone.”
Kim and Zoe—the daughter of actor Henry Winkler, who has three children with her husband Rob Reinis—also discussed the judgment they face regarding their parenting choices. Kim revealed that her mother, Kris Jenner, who is also the mother of her siblings Kourtney, Rob, Khloé, Kendall, and Kylie, is one of her harshest critics. “That’s one really frustrating thing my mom does,” Kim noted. “She is the most judgmental when it comes to snacks and candy, yet her house is filled with every kind of candy and ice cream—it’s like a paradise for kids.”
Kim went on to recount a snarky comment she received from her mother recently. “Last night, my son went into her freezer,” Kim shared. “He said, ‘I don’t want cake; I want ice cream instead.’ And she remarked, ‘Look at him enjoying that ice cream.’” Stay tuned for more of Kim’s insights on motherhood.
